The Cambridge Metabolic Network invites members to apply for one of two free places on the DDA Winter School 2017. Researchers working at post-doctoral level and third year doctoral candidates are eligible to apply. Accommodation and all meals for the selected participants will be covered by the DDA and travel costs will be covered by the Cambridge Metabolic Network. This is an exciting opportunity to further your knowledge of diabetes research, to form connections with researchers working in related fields and to develop important transferable skills.
The Winter School runs from 20-23 March 2017 in Málaga, Spain. As the course runs for four full days, applicants should be free to travel to Málaga on 19 March and to return on 24 March. The majority of participants will be based in Denmark but the course is offered in English and includes prominent speakers from a range of countries.
Topics covered include pharmacology, foetal programming, diabetes epidemiology, integrative physiology of type 2 diabetes, early onset diabetes, lifestyle interventions, career development, diabetes complications and technology. A preliminary programme, including names of confirmed speakers has been published.
Each applicant should submit an abstract using the DDA’s standard format as chosen participants will be required to present a poster as well as a 1-minute talk about their work. They will also join the ‘Diabetes Challenge’, a cooperative learning exercise bringing together clinical and basic researchers. The challenge will require some input before, during and after the Winter School.
Location: The DDA Winter School 2017 will be held at the Hotel Riserva del Higueron in Fuengirola, Málaga.
Any researcher wishing to apply should be a member of the Cambridge Metabolic Network and should complete the application form by Monday 19th December 2016. Successful applicants will be notified by early January.
