The Cambridge Diabetes Seminars were established in 1981 to provide training in epidemiological methods with specific application to diabetes mellitus. The format of the Seminar is a week long residential course, with resident international Faculty and up to 50 participants from all over the world.
Since the first seminar, a further ten courses have been held in Cambridge, the latest in 2011 which was attended by 42 participants from over 27 different countries. In 2010, the Cambridge Seminar was held in China.
Many of the participants have begun original research and made substantial contributions to this field on returning to their countries of origin. Not only does the course provide didactic training to those new to the field, but it acts as an important point of connection to a growing network of researchers.
