The following workshop might be of interest to one of your group members. The genome editing CRISPR technique has become very popular in the last year and it is time now that every group has their own CRISPR specialist to tackle all the challenges that lie ahead.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions.
CamBioScience (www.cambioscience.com) is hosting a 2-day intensive workshop on genome engineering entitled: “Genome Editing: CRISPR Design and Strategy“. The course will be hosted at Homerton College, University of Cambridge on the 29th February and the 1st March 2016.
The course is aimed at PhD students, post-doctoral scientists, senior research assistants and junior group leaders from both academia and industry.
On this course you will learn all about the structure of genes and how best to target, delete, modify and tag them using the very latest in CRISPR technology! Detailed advice for those interested in correcting or introducing genomic mutations will also be given.
In depth training in the use of bioinformatics tools will teach you how to increase the specificity of your genome editing and how to identify and minimise potential off-target effects. Cutting-edge advances in the use of CRISPR will be a major focus, with tips and tricks for vector design and experimental strategy from experts in high-throughout genome engineering.
Hands-on tutorials, discussions and Q & A sessions with leading scientists will help answer the burning questions you have about your specific project and help you avoid the common pitfalls! Major figures in genome engineering and stem cell biology will give key note talks on their latest research. The course teaching will focus heavily on manipulation of mammalian genomes so applicants with an interest in this system will be prioritised.
On the social side, there will be wine and networking receptions and a famous University of Cambridge Formal Dinner! Furthermore, breakfast, hot food lunches, and coffee are all included in the price of the course. Although accommodation is not provided we are well equipped to offer advice about the best places to stay in Cambridge with numerous sites conveniently located very close to the workshop site.
We are delighted to confirm that we have four world-leading instructors and speakers who have all been directly involved in shaping the contemporary genome engineering revolution:
> Dr. Barry Rosen (AstraZeneca)
> Dr. Mark Thomas (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute)
> Dr. William Skarnes (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute)
> Dr. Kosuke Yusa (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute)
A forerunner for the Nobel Prize in the near future, developments in the application of CRISPR technology show little sign of slowing down. This incredible technology is already revolutionising basic science, biotechnology and modern medicine!
