Research
My research group explores integrative mitochondrial physiology with changes in oxygen and nutrient availability, and how these responses influence health and disease. We combine studies of human high-altitude adaptation with experimental approaches to investigate hypoxia signalling, metabolic flexibility and communication between organs.
Particular interests include the metabolic links between fatty liver disease and cardiovascular function, and how placental metabolism supports fetal growth. Across these themes, we aim to understand what distinguishes beneficial metabolic adaptation from changes that contribute to disease.
