Research
My research interests lie at the intersection of genetics, epigenetics, developmental biology, metabolism and ageing. I am particularly interested in understanding how imprinted genes contribute to the development and function of key metabolic organs, how environmental factors influence gene expression during early development, and how these changes can leave long-term legacies that persist throughout life and contribute to the risk of age-related metabolic disorders.
I also have a particular interest in inter-organ communication during intrauterine development, and in uncovering the molecular messengers used by the placenta to communicate with the mother and foetus, thereby enabling maternal adaptation to pregnancy and supporting optimal foetal growth. My research combines genetically engineered rodent models with, where possible, studies of human samples.
