The O’Neill group is interested in the fundamental mechanisms that sustain circadian rhythms in eukaryotic cells, how this endogenous clock evolved, and how daily timekeeping organizes mammalian cell function to deal with the different challenges of day and night. For example, almost every aspect of cellular metabolism is subject to circadian regulation, in vitro and in vivo.
